First of all I would like to say thanks to all my loyal readers! Yes, I am still here, and I am finally updating the site. I have taken a break from the site for awhile because there wasn’t any real new news in awhile and I didn’t really feel the need to update the site on all the financial gloom that has been recently surrounding the park. Yes it’s news, but I just didn’t want to bring things down with news that had a “oh here we go again” feeling.
I have also been trying to rack my brain for new site designs/updates that I would like to do for the new year. Any thing that my readers would like to have integrated in the site please let me know.
So with the new year comes a new park season. Who’s excited for the re-opening of the park? It will be nice to visit the park again and re-ride some of my favorite rides. There is a sense of disappointment in the fact that there is not going to be any new rides. I would be very interested to see the improvements if any were done in the off season. The park for the most park has been quite on what has been done in the off season.
My guess is the CSI show will be changed and possibly some updates to Monstars. What are your thoughts? What I would like to see though is a new night time show and some events that would get more people in the park.
While this article doesn’t really have anything to do with Freestyle specifically. (I mean who wants to hear another lawsuit story?) I just thought I should show how truly dumb the city of Myrtle Beach is. We are still a tourist destination correct?
The Myrtle Beach Community Appearance Board denied Wonderworks being built at Broadway at the Beach. The reason being? It was too high of a structure compared to other buildings in the area. My thoughts? Who cares? Broadway at the Beach is filled with a pyramid (Hard Rock), a giant globe (Planet Hollywood), and many other unique structures in the area, not to mention huge hotels that are taller then the proposed Wonderworks building located a couple blocks down the street from Broadway.
Shouldn’t the city be welcoming a company into the area with open arms that will not only create much need jobs in the area it will also help with tourism. I mean that is the reason you are taxing everyone more money in the city of Myrtle Beach correct? We need more money for tourism advertisement. Instead the city wants to drive away any business or tourists that don’t fit it with the city’s “plans”.
Thoughts?

The Coaster Critic has a written up a nice article comparing the recently opened Rip Ride Rocket (Possibly the dumbest names I have seen for a ride at Universal) vs the Time Machine.
In the article songs are compared for the two coasters. With Rip featuring over 30 songs that users can pick. (There are also a huge number of hidden songs) Time Machine features over 50 tracks none of which can be chosen by the riders.
In the end it comes down to music choice and ride experience. Having not ridden Rip yet ( I will be this October) I can’t say which is better. Though I do like the ability to choose which song I would like to hear. What does everyone else think?

Freestyle Music Park has been hit with another lawsuit, the third in the past month.
The theme park is being sued in small claims court by All Star Talent, a Myrtle Beach agency that supplied the park with living statues and stilt walkers.
The breach of contract suit claims the park owes the talent agency more than $9,000 in unpaid bills. Freestyle president Steve Baker said the invoices are less than 45 days old and still current.
Another lawsuit against the park was settled out of court last month. A third is still pending
I haven’t really posted much about the other lawsuits, and was debating about posting this one. The reason being that while it is news it’s something that I think news sites are jumping on because of what happened with the previous owners. Thoughts?
With the 2009 season coming to an end soon, many parks around the country are busy promoting/teasing their new attractions for the 2010 season.
Carowinds just announced a new B&M the Intimidator. It is going to be the tallest, fastest, and longest in the South East. So with Carowinds new coaster announcement do you think that will hurt FSMP? Thoughts?
Dollywoods announced Adventure Mountain.
There are many more examples, but I just listed some parks close to Myrtle Beach. So where is FSMP’s teaser or announcement for their 2010 season? All we have to go one now are a number of different rumors and speculations.
My point being is FSMP needs to get some information out in order to compete with these parks. Many people plan their vacations months if not a year in advance, and knowing what is coming up will make planning what places they want to visit.
Thanks to user Troika we have some early concept pictures of what HRP was going to use the land behind where the Tiki area is at FSMP.
It looks like originally the park planned what looked like a really well themed flume ride that would sit behind the current Bali Hai Burgers And Bites. Also if you notice from the concept picture the area is very well themed to an island. Some very nice theming in this picture!

In the next picture we have a model of the park that we currently know. It looks like the flume ride was scrapped in favor of what looks like a standard rapids ride.

For a couple of other pictures check out Troika’s Flikr site.
So from looking at these pictures, more specifically the 2nd picture we can see that there is enough room for a water type attraction in the area that we reported earlier with the markers in the ground. What kind of attraction can we expect though? I think the park needs to start some type of teaser site or something to get people excited for a new attraction at the park.
Recently these stakes or markers have appeared in the Myrtle Beach area behind the Tikki Huts. Could these markers be the location of the rumored Log Flume ride? Maybe the park is in the planning stages and seeing how such a ride would work in the current area. Anyone know more?

It seems that Freestyle Park new ads are focusing on the parks firework show. New billboards around Myrtle Beach say something along the lines of “Myrtle Beach’s only daily night-time firework show!” (Sorry don’t remember the exact phrase) Looking at the new billboards though you would never guess that this is a theme park though. It doesn’t mention all of the other things to do at the park besides the firework show. While I think it is great to be highlighting such a fantastic show, I think the park needs to be more diverse in their ads and focus on other aspects of the park. Although I do find it interesting that it seems that the park is marketing to people/family’s whom stay at the beach all day and are looking for something to do during the night. What is everyone’s thoughts?
